Versions & Time Machine Recovery
Versions is Eidos Lite’s built-in local time machine for your entire Space. It captures immutable snapshots of your .eidos tables, Markdown notes, and assets at key milestones.
All version data is stored strictly on your local disk. No account sign-in or internet connection is required.
1. Enable Versioning
Section titled “1. Enable Versioning”- Open any Space in Eidos Lite.
- Click the Versions button (clock icon) in the top-right corner.
- Click Enable versioning.
Eidos Lite immediately captures the initial state of your entire Space as its first snapshot. Subsequently, opening the Versions panel presents two primary tabs: Changes and History.
2. Saving a Version Snapshot
Section titled “2. Saving a Version Snapshot”Whenever you complete a meaningful milestone (e.g. “Finalized August client invoices” or “Completed project brief draft”):
- Click the clock icon in the top right.
- In the Changes list, review the files that have been created, modified, or deleted.
- In the Version note field at the bottom, type a concise summary (e.g. “Release ready draft”).
- Click Save version.
The changes are instantly committed to your timeline in History, ready to be referenced whenever needed.
3. Reviewing Historical Diffs
Section titled “3. Reviewing Historical Diffs”- Open the Versions panel and switch to the History tab.
- Browse the chronological timeline showing commit timestamps and notes.
- Click any milestone to see which files changed.
- Click on an individual file to inspect visual side-by-side diffs for tables and text documents.
- Browsing historical changes never modifies your current working files.
4. One-Click Space Rollback
Section titled “4. One-Click Space Rollback”If recent edits were a mistake or you accidentally deleted important files, you can restore your whole Space to any prior point in time:
- Open the History tab and select the version you wish to restore.
- Click Restore this version.
- Confirm by clicking Restore Space in the confirmation dialog.
Eidos Lite instantly restores all files in your folder to that exact milestone. For maximum safety, the system automatically creates a safeguard snapshot of your current state just before rolling back, meaning you can even undo the restoration if you change your mind.
5. Excluding Large or Temporary Files
Section titled “5. Excluding Large or Temporary Files”If your Space contains large cache directories, build outputs, or dependencies (like node_modules) that shouldn’t inflate version history, create a .gitignore or .graftignore file in your Space root:
node_modules/*.tmpcache/Files matching these patterns will be ignored in the Changes tab and kept out of your historical snapshots.
