Records & Everyday Editing

Each row of a table represents a concrete record. Whether viewing items horizontally in a grid or visually as cards on a Kanban board or gallery, you are editing the exact same underlying record.

Eidos Lite provides fluid keyboard navigation tailored for fast and intuitive data entry:

  • Create New Record: Press ⌘ + Enter on macOS (Ctrl + Enter on Windows/Linux) anywhere in the grid to immediately insert a new row below and focus the first editable cell.
  • In-Cell Editing:
    • Select any cell and start typing, or press Enter to edit.
    • Press Esc to cancel edits and revert to the previous value.
    • Press Tab to move to the cell on the right, or Shift + Tab to move to the left.
    • Checkbox cells: select the cell and press Space to toggle the check state instantly.

You can copy tabular data directly from Excel, Numbers, Google Sheets, or formatted plain text, select a starting cell in Eidos Lite, and press ⌘ + V (or Ctrl + V):

  • Eidos cleanly maps clipboard rows and columns into matching cells.
  • Dates and numeric values are formatted and validated automatically.
  • For importing large datasets with dozens of columns, consider using the CSV Import Wizard.

When a record contains long paragraphs, extensive task descriptions, or multiple attachments, reading inside a narrow spreadsheet cell can feel cramped.

  • Expand Card: Hover over the row number and click the Expand icon (or use the shortcut) to open the record’s dedicated detail card in a side drawer or modal.
  • Focused Reading & Notes: All fields are presented in spacious, customizable sections where you can compose rich notes, manage relationships, and inspect full images.

For fields configured as Relations:

  1. Click the cell to open the record picker popup.
  2. The popup lists candidate records from the target table with instant search filtering.
  3. Select one or more records to establish the link.
  4. Click the small link icon next to a connected record to jump directly to that record’s full details in the other table.

  • Drag and Drop: Drag files, photos, or PDFs directly from your desktop or file manager into any Attachment cell.
  • Instant Previews: Image attachments automatically generate high-resolution thumbnails. Click any attachment thumbnail to open a full-screen preview with zoom and pan controls—no third-party app required.

Edit with peace of mind:

  • Press ⌘ + Z (Ctrl + Z on Windows/Linux) to undo any recent change or deletion.
  • Press ⌘ + Shift + Z (Ctrl + Y on Windows/Linux) to redo.
